Winterberry’s Humble Beginnings

I was sitting and scrolling through old photos the other day. Videos of my very first salon had popped up from start to finish. My very first renovation project. What nobody knows is that I didnt want to ever open my own salon. I grew up around entrepreneurs and I knew what it took to run a business. I honestly wanted no part of it. I wanted freedom and no responsibilties. Keep in mind i was young. However God had other plans for me. He basically told me I would be dumb not to do it. It was only one hundred dollars more than my booth rent with the potential to have booth renters in there to pay the rent for me. Why would I not do that? I had no money and no plan but I trusted him. The first day we started reno I actually got excited, I love doing hair and the excitement of never knowing who is gonna walk through the door with whatever is going on with their hair. Surprisingly as much as I love doing hair I found the renovation project even more exciting. I quickly found out that I have a passion for taking ordinary things or things in rough shape and showing everyone the beauty within.

The idea of taking this building, that was a previous salon with carpet (shock emoji) as well as some crazy teal paneling, and creating something beautiful; well that was so exciting to me. I couldnt wait to see the end result but I was highly enjoying the process. I find that I love the journey more than the destination a lot of the time. It holds so much possibility. I love the experience of life, I love the lessons it teaches and the hardships we go through that keep us on our toes. Why? So we grow and become the best version of ourselves. We have so much potential and if we get stuck in the comfortable, then we lose out on so much greatness that is waiting for us.

I am now on my second salon renovation here at Winterberry and I could not be more excited about how far it has come. I love all my clients. So many of you have been part of my journey since day one of announcung Winterberry as my name. You have seen the ups and down, highs and lows. You got to be apart of both my salon renos and see the start to finish. I hope I can always provide an atmosphere that makes people feel at home. Somewhere that you can come and feel safe to vent and not feel judged, somewhere you can come and feel loved and cared for, somewhere you leave feeling better than when you got here. I pride myself on being able to help people. God has given me my talent andn the perserverance to always be better and I will always use it to glorify him.

I have been able to pray with my clients and we have seen so many answered prayers. He says: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” Matthew 18:20

I feel his presence in the salon everyday and I am so grateful everyday for that. Here is a photo of Winterberry now and its humble beginnings. Stay tuned to see whats next for Winterberry, the sky is the limit.
